INTERDISCIPLINARY DESIGNER + TEXTILE SPECIALIST

Chances are, you’re here for one of two very different reasons: to see my professional textile portfolio, or to see my jewelry shop. These seem like two distant ends of the creative spectrum, but you should know that both ends are so deeply, intrinsically part of me that it doesn’t feel right to tell you one half of my story without the other.

I am, first and foremost, a creative, and there was a time in my life where I let that identity slip and became purely a corporate textile designer. I came to realize I could not rely entirely on my professional identity for creative fulfillment, and Haint Blue Studio was born out of that realization. I started focusing on building a body of work completely separate from my day job, in entirely separate mediums, and you know what? My productivity and creativity started to soar at my day job in return. Suddenly I felt creative confidence again. I came to work with strong ideas and perspectives, and a creative enthusiasm that I saw to be infectious throughout the office.

My renewed confidence led me to becoming who I am today: a person with an unstoppable desire to learn and grow, both personally and professionally, and to influence those around me through my actions. My curiosity knows no bounds, and I am deeply interested in understanding the connections between every aspect of design and manufacturing- whether that means working with my company’s finishing department for a day, traveling to design facilities abroad, or participating in various artistic workshops that support other enthusiastic creatives.

Haint Blue Studio is named as an homage to the color often referenced in the Southern folklore I grew up with. My private studio practice under this umbrella encapsulates creative pursuits such as jewelry design, weaving, illustration, knitwear design, print design, book making, shibori dyeing, felting, and crafting handspun yarn. I am constantly evolving and adding to this skill set.

I am currently part of the design team at Culp Home Fashions, creating circular knit fabrics and jacquard wovens for the mattress and bedding industry, but my career in textiles has covered a wide range of responsibilities, mediums, and applications over the past 17 years. I have created textiles used by industry leading brands in the worlds of residential and contract upholstery, bedding, drapery, apparel, footwear, and outdoor industries to name a few. I have also spent dedicated years of my career exclusively focused on merchandising, color development, marketing, business development, and an array of other responsibilities within the textile world, giving me a very broad and far-reaching perspective of the industry.

I received my BFA in Fiber Arts from Savannah College of Art and Design with a Fine Arts concentration and minor focus on Art History. At SCAD, I focused heavily on knitwear and woven designs for apparel and accessories using sustainable and non-conventional materials and forms. I have also studied at Penland School of Craft, and hold degrees and certifications in Interior Design and Historic Preservation.

My personal aesthetic always has a way of circling back to ethereal, bohemian influences. I believe in abundant ornamentation and lush detail, but also in functionality.

When I'm not crafting new works, you can find me hiking in the mountains with my husband, writing, traveling, reading, seeking out antique stores, and spending time with my rescue pets.
